Lunar New Year: Nian Gao (Tikoy) Adapted from Panlasang Pinoy

Lunar New Year is right around the corner and we can't help but dream about the days sitting at the dining table preparing Nian Gao, otherwise known as Tikoy in the Philippine community, with our Lola (grandma). Nian Gao or Tikoy holds a special place in Founder Bea's heart and she is so excited to share with you all a recipe her family's adapted. 


Nian Gao Recipe


Adapted from: @panlasangpinoy ⁠
3 cups glutinous rice flour⁠
1 1/2 cup warm water⁠
1/2 cup brown sugar⁠
⁠
Boil Water and mix with brown sugar to melt⁠
Mix brown sugar water with rice flour⁠
Steam until tooth pick is clean⁠
⁠
Traditional way: ⁠
Egg⁠
1. Beat egg like scrambled eggs⁠
2. slice Nian gao into slices and dip into beaten egg⁠
3. Pan fry both sides⁠
⁠
Additional toppings/ other ways: ⁠
sesame seeds⁠
coconut flakes⁠
1. Slice nian gao and roll in additional toppings, pan fry⁠

2. Eat with your loved ones to celebrate the Lunar New Year!
